Private transfers from Schiphol to spine clinics in Germany

For international patients heading to a spine clinic in Germany’s Ruhr region, the journey does not end at the airport. SilverDrive runs private, door-to-door chauffeur transfers from Schiphol and Amsterdam to clinics in Gelsenkirchen, Bochum and Essen, in vehicles with reclining seats and at a price fixed when you book. The drive takes roughly two to two and a half hours.

Why patients fly into Amsterdam for German spine clinics

The Ruhr region is home to specialised spine clinics that treat patients from across Europe, the Middle East and North America for procedures such as disc surgery, decompression and minimally invasive back surgery. Many of those patients do not fly directly into Germany. They choose Schiphol because:

  • It is a major hub with direct long-haul connections from many cities.
  • Flight schedules and airline choice are wider than at smaller regional airports.
  • Amsterdam has good hotels for a pre-operative or recovery stay.
  • The road from Schiphol into the Ruhr is direct and mostly motorway.

Why comfortable transport matters for back patients

Anyone with a spinal condition knows that the wrong seat, even for twenty minutes, can aggravate pain. A train with a change in Utrecht or Duisburg, or a low taxi with a stiff seat, can turn the transfer into the hardest part of the trip. Typical challenges include:

  • Being unable to sit upright for long periods.
  • Difficulty getting into and out of low cars.
  • Sensitivity to bumps, braking and sudden movements.
  • The need to recline to take pressure off the spine.
  • Fatigue or dizziness after surgery or medication.

A fleet chosen for comfort

Mercedes-Benz V-Class and EQV with captain seats

For most spine patients, the Mercedes-Benz V-Class is the right vehicle. Its individual captain seats recline far back, there is space to change position, and the step-in height is easier than a low saloon. The electric Mercedes-Benz EQV adds massage seats, which some passengers find helpful on longer stretches.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class and S-Class

Patients who can sit with good support, for example for a consultation before surgery, often prefer a saloon. The S-Class has supportive adjustable seats, generous legroom and a very quiet cabin.

A calm, private cabin

Every car is clean, climate-controlled and quiet. There is room for luggage, medical aids and personal items. Passengers set the tone: conversation, or complete silence and rest.

How SilverDrive supports medical travellers

Experienced, careful chauffeurs

Our chauffeurs serve business clients, VIP guests and medical travellers. They track your flight, wait in Arrivals with a name sign, handle all luggage, and drive smoothly and predictably. They are not medical staff, but they understand that after surgery comfort matters more than speed.

Flexible, door-to-door service

  • Pickup at the exact clinic entrance or department.
  • Return transfers to Schiphol or your Amsterdam hotel.
  • Waiting time during consultations or discharge, if needed.
  • Extra stops at a pharmacy or rehabilitation centre on request.

Clear communication

Before the trip we confirm the exact addresses, the vehicle, any special requests such as extra time to board, and contact details for the patient and a family member or coordinator.

Planning your journey step by step

  1. Book your flight to Schiphol with a comfortable margin before clinic check-in.
  2. Reserve your transfer on the booking page and mention that it is a medical trip.
  3. Choose the vehicle: for most spine patients, the V-Class.
  4. Share arrival and discharge times from the clinic, and any updates.
  5. Arrange the return leg in advance, to Schiphol, Amsterdam or another European city.

For airport arrivals we include flight tracking and 60 minutes of free waiting. See our Schiphol airport transfer page and our long-distance service.

Travel to your clinic with comfort and confidence

The transfer between airport and hospital is a real part of your treatment journey. A calm, private and comfortable ride makes it one less thing to worry about. Contact us with your clinic and dates for a fixed quote.

Frequently asked questions

Can I travel in a reclined or almost flat position?

Yes. Our Mercedes V-Class and EQV vans have individual captain seats that recline far back, which suits passengers who cannot sit upright for long. Tell us at booking and we will configure the seat before pickup.

Is the transfer suitable immediately after spine surgery?

Many patients travel shortly after discharge once their medical team confirms car travel is appropriate. We provide a calm, smooth ride with minimal strain, but clearance must always come from your surgeon or physician. Our chauffeurs are not medical staff.

How long is the drive from Schiphol to Gelsenkirchen, Bochum or Essen?

Roughly two to two and a half hours in normal traffic, mostly via the A12 and A3 through Arnhem and Oberhausen. We add time for rest stops if you need to stretch or change position.

Can a family member or caregiver travel with me?

Yes. The V-Class seats up to seven, so a companion, family members or a caregiver can travel along with luggage and medical items.

Can I book the return transfer before I know my discharge date?

Yes. Book the arrival leg and give us an expected discharge window. When the clinic confirms the date, we fix the return pickup, subject to availability.
