A long distance chauffeur service is chauffeured transport for journeys of two hours and upwards, often across a border and sometimes across a week. SilverDrive plans these trips from Amsterdam across Europe with its own fleet, the same chauffeur for the duration and one fixed price covering the route, tolls and the chauffeur's time.
When a journey becomes long-distance
Below about two hours, a journey is a transfer. Beyond that, the questions multiply (breaks, driver hours, border timing, whether the day should split) and the answer has to be designed rather than dispatched. That planning is the service. A long distance taxi gives you a car and a meter; this gives you an itinerary that holds.
How we structure a long journey
The single long day
Up to five or six hours of driving fits one day comfortably: an early start, planned breaks and arrival with the evening intact. Amsterdam to Paris or Frankfurt sits in this band.
The overnight split
Beyond that band, the better shape is a deliberate overnight, often somewhere worth stopping, with the same chauffeur continuing the next morning. A drive to the south of France becomes two civilised days rather than one brutal one.
Relay or fly-and-drive
Very long routes may be better served by a relay of chauffeurs, arranged before departure so every driver stays inside legal limits, or by flying the middle section and being met by a car at the other end. We will tell you which fits your case.
What the long distance car service includes
- A driving plan built inside the working-time and rest rules for professional drivers
- The same chauffeur for the duration, across borders and overnight
- Route, tolls and the chauffeur's time in one agreed figure
- Any overnight costs stated in advance, never added at the end
- Planned breaks and, on electric cars, planned charging stops
Vehicles for long journeys
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW i7 are built for the single long day. The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is the most comfortable way to cover a continent by road. The V-Class and the electric EQV seat seven and turn the same hours into family time with the luggage problem solved.
Ask for an electric EQS or i7 on regional routes. On runs over about 400 kilometres, a charging stop is planned into the schedule and does not change the price.
Where we drive
From our Amsterdam base we run long journeys across Europe, most often to Belgium, Germany, France, Luxembourg, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Inside the Schengen area there are no border formalities, so a journey through three countries runs as one drive. Trips into the UK are planned around the crossing, and the quote covers the arrangement.
When the train or a flight is the better call
A solo traveller with light luggage on a fast rail corridor, Amsterdam to Paris for instance, is better off on the train, and it will cost far less. Beyond six to eight hours of driving, flying wins on time for most people. The car wins for three or four people travelling together, heavy luggage, multi-stop days and anyone who needs the journey hours to be private working hours.
