Where cruise ships dock in the Netherlands
Cruise ships use three main terminals in the Netherlands: Rotterdam Cruise Terminal, Passenger Terminal Amsterdam, and the Felison Cruise Terminal in IJmuiden. They sit far apart, and the name on your itinerary decides where your chauffeur meets you. Always confirm your terminal in your cruise documents, then leave the route to us.
Rotterdam Cruise Terminal
Rotterdam Cruise Terminal sits on the Wilhelmina Pier at Wilhelminakade 699, beside the Erasmus Bridge in the heart of the city. It is the historic home of Holland America Line and a regular departure point for lines such as P&O Cruises. The catch for most travellers is distance: the terminal is around 65 kilometres from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, roughly an hour by car depending on traffic. A SilverDrive chauffeur turns that into a single, comfortable ride rather than a train change with luggage.
Passenger Terminal Amsterdam
Passenger Terminal Amsterdam, the PTA, is the city's main cruise terminal at Piet Heinkade 27, on the IJ waterfront about 1.5 kilometres from Amsterdam Centraal. Ocean lines such as Celebrity Cruises and river operators including Viking and AmaWaterways use it, which makes it one of the most convenient terminals in Europe. It is roughly 25 to 30 minutes from Schiphol by car. We collect you from the terminal door, or deliver you to it, with no walk along the quay and no hunting for a taxi.
IJmuiden Felison Cruise Terminal
The largest ocean liners that cannot enter the city centre dock at the Felison Cruise Terminal in IJmuiden, on the North Sea coast about 30 kilometres west of Amsterdam and roughly 45 to 60 minutes from Schiphol. Lines such as Norwegian Cruise Line and Viking Ocean Cruises berth here. If your documents say IJmuiden rather than Amsterdam, that distance matters, and a pre-booked transfer is the difference between a smooth start and a long, uncertain wait for transport.
The airport to cruise port connection
The hardest part of a Dutch cruise is rarely the sailing. It is the gap between Schiphol and the quay. Many travellers fly into Amsterdam and then discover their ship leaves from Rotterdam, an hour south. A SilverDrive chauffeur closes that gap in one ride.
-
- Schiphol to Rotterdam Cruise Terminal: around 65 km, roughly an hour by car, the classic Holland America embarkation route.
-
- Schiphol to Passenger Terminal Amsterdam: about 20 km, around 25 to 30 minutes door to door.
-
- Schiphol to IJmuiden Felison Cruise Terminal: around 30 km from the city, roughly 45 to 60 minutes depending on traffic.
At the end of your cruise we do the same in reverse, watching your ship's arrival time so your chauffeur is waiting as you disembark, then driving you straight to Schiphol or your onward destination with time to breathe before your flight.
What your cruise terminal transfer includes
Every cruise port transfer is private and door to door. Nothing is shared, nothing is rushed, and the price is agreed before you travel.
-
- Personal meet and greet at the terminal or your address, with a name board and a hand with your luggage.
-
- Flight and sailing tracking, so your pickup moves with your real arrival time.
-
- Generous waiting time built in, because terminals and arrivals halls run on their own clock.
-
- A direct route to your ship, hotel, or airport, chosen by a chauffeur who knows the roads.
-
- Service around the clock, for the early sailings and the late, long-haul arrivals.
Cruise transfers for solo travellers, families, and groups
Cruise parties come in every size, and the right vehicle changes the whole journey. A couple with two suitcases and a tour group of fifty have very different needs, and we carry both.
-
- Couples and solo travellers: the Mercedes S-Class or E-Class, quiet and effortless.
-
- Families and small groups: the spacious Mercedes V-Class or the electric EQV, with room for people and luggage together.
-
- Larger parties: the Mercedes Sprinter, or for full coach groups our group transfer service with the 56-seat Setra coach.
Cruise port transfer questions, answered
Where do cruise ships dock in the Netherlands?
Cruise ships use three main terminals. Rotterdam Cruise Terminal on the Wilhelmina Pier is the home of Holland America Line. Passenger Terminal Amsterdam sits beside the city centre. The largest ocean liners dock at the Felison Cruise Terminal in IJmuiden. Always check your cruise documents for the exact terminal.
How do I get from Amsterdam cruise port to the city centre?
Passenger Terminal Amsterdam is about 1.5 kilometres from Amsterdam Centraal, a 15 to 20 minute walk or a short tram ride. With luggage, or if your ship docks in IJmuiden well outside the city, a private SilverDrive transfer takes you door to door without the walk or the wait.
How far is Rotterdam Cruise Terminal from Schiphol Airport?
Rotterdam Cruise Terminal is around 65 kilometres from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, roughly an hour by car depending on traffic. It is the standard route for Holland America embarkations. We track your flight and drive you straight there, so the airport to port gap never becomes a problem.
Can you walk into the city from the cruise port?
From Passenger Terminal Amsterdam, yes, the centre is about a 20 minute walk. From Rotterdam Cruise Terminal you can stroll across the Erasmus Bridge into town in roughly 25 minutes. From IJmuiden you cannot, as it sits about 30 kilometres outside Amsterdam and needs onward transport.
Should I book a private transfer or take a taxi or Uber?
A pre-booked private transfer gives you a fixed price, a guaranteed vehicle sized for your luggage and group, and a chauffeur waiting by name. Taxi and ride-hailing availability at the terminals can be unreliable on busy embarkation mornings and at unusual hours, exactly when you can least afford a gamble.
How early should I book my cruise transfer?
Book as soon as you have your sailing details and flight times. Embarkation days are busy, especially in the summer cruise season, and reserving early secures the right vehicle for your group. Your fixed price is confirmed at booking, so there are no surprises on the day.
Do you track my flight and my ship's arrival?
Yes. We monitor your flight and your sailing time and adjust the pickup to match, with extra waiting time built in. Your chauffeur is at the gate or the quay with a name board before you arrive, whether your flight is early or your ship is late.
Which cruise terminals and routes do you cover?
We cover Rotterdam Cruise Terminal, Passenger Terminal Amsterdam, and the Felison Cruise Terminal in IJmuiden, with transfers to and from Schiphol Airport, hotels, and city addresses across the Randstad. We also drive longer European routes for travellers combining a cruise with onward travel.
