Metered taxi or fixed price: how a Schiphol fare works

There are two ways to take a taxi from Schiphol: join the queue at the official taxi rank outside arrivals, or book a ride in advance.

The meter. At the taxi rank and in most street taxis, a meter runs. The Dutch government sets maximum rates each year for taxis carrying up to four passengers: a starting fare, a rate per kilometre and a rate per minute. The longer you sit in traffic, the higher the final fare.

A fixed price in advance. With a pre-booked ride you agree one price for the whole journey. Traffic, roadworks or a late landing do not change it. That is how SilverDrive works.

What determines your fixed price:
