Match days at Signal Iduna Park, Westfalenhallen fairs and airport transfers, with a chauffeur waiting at an agreed point afterwards.
Dortmund is a city of big occasions: Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park, fairs and concerts at the Westfalenhallen next door, and European nights that bring supporters from across the continent. It is also a university and technology city, roughly 2.5 to 3 hours from Amsterdam by road.
SilverDrive drives Dortmund from the Netherlands with its own fleet and a price fixed at booking, and the same booking can include Essen, Düsseldorf or Cologne.
A chauffeur service in Dortmund is a car from SilverDrive’s own fleet and a screened, English-speaking driver, booked at a fixed price before you travel. In Dortmund it covers match days at Signal Iduna Park, fair and congress days at the Westfalenhallen, transfers to and from Dortmund or Düsseldorf airports, and cross-border drives from Amsterdam and the Netherlands.
Dortmund is the largest city in the eastern Ruhr and a city of big occasions. Signal Iduna Park, home of Borussia Dortmund, is Germany’s largest football stadium, and the Westfalenhallen exhibition and congress centre stands right next to it. On event days the area around them fills, roads close and taxis are hard to find. A pre-booked car with a chauffeur who knows the drop-off arrangements is the calm way through.
Dortmund bookings fall into four groups, each quoted as one fixed price.
| Booking | Typical use | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| Event transport | Match days, concerts and fairs | Agreed drop-off and pickup points, waiting included |
| Airport transfer | Dortmund, Düsseldorf or Schiphol airports | Flight tracking, meet and greet, 60 minutes of waiting after touchdown |
| Business chauffeur | Meetings, campus visits, client dinners | A car at a stated time, door to door |
| Cross-border transfer | Amsterdam or a Dutch hotel to Dortmund and back | One chauffeur for the whole route |
A match at Signal Iduna Park is one of the great days out in European football. It is also a logistics problem: on match days the roads around the stadium and the Westfalenhallen close or slow down hours before kick-off, the trams and trains fill, and after the final whistle tens of thousands of people want to leave at once.
A chauffeur turns that into two fixed points. You are set down at the drop-off zone that applies on the day, you agree a pickup point before you go in, and the car is waiting there afterwards. For European nights with a late kick-off, the drive back to the Netherlands happens while you sleep, instead of waiting for the first train in the morning.
Supporters’ clubs and company groups travel together in the seven-seat V-Class or EQV, the 16-seat Sprinter VIP or the Setra coach, and corporate hospitality guests can travel separately in an S-Class or BMW i7. Our page on transfers to a football match explains the arrangement, including away days from the Netherlands.
The Westfalenhallen, beside the stadium in the south of the city centre, host trade fairs, consumer shows, congresses and concerts throughout the year, including Jagd & Hund, the hunting and fishing fair. On busy days the same roads serve both venues, so arrival and departure times matter.
A multi-day booking keeps the same chauffeur with you for the whole event: a morning drop at the entrance that applies for your hall, a car on call during the day and a collection that waits for the evening programme to finish. Exhibitors with samples and display material travel with their cases in the V-Class or Sprinter VIP. Our event transportation page covers the arrangement in more detail, and hunting guests travelling on from a fair may find our guide to driven hunts from Amsterdam useful.
Dortmund has three practical airports, and the right one depends on your flight.
At every airport the pickup works the same way: your chauffeur tracks the flight, meets you in arrivals with a name sign, takes the luggage and includes 60 minutes of waiting after touchdown.
Beyond football, Dortmund is a university and technology city. TU Dortmund University and the technology park beside it draw academic and corporate visitors, and the city’s former industrial sites have been rebuilt as offices and neighbourhoods, such as the area around the Phoenix-See, a lake created on the site of a former steelworks.
A business chauffeur suits the shape of those days: a pickup at the airport or hotel, waiting during meetings, and the next address without a search for a taxi. For a programme across several Ruhr cities, an hourly booking keeps one car and driver with you throughout, and our corporate car service guide explains standing arrangements for regular visitors.
A few free hours in Dortmund are easy to fill, and a car links the places that are not next to each other.

SilverDrive was founded in Amsterdam by Joshua Faerber and drives between the Netherlands and Germany regularly, in cars it owns rather than rides passed to a subcontractor. You get a fixed price agreed at booking, screened English-speaking chauffeurs, free flight tracking on airport pickups and availability around the clock, which matters on a night when the match ends at eleven.
Big fixtures sell out early, and so do match-day vehicles, so book the car when you have the tickets. See all the places we cover on our cities page.
Roughly 2.5 to 3 hours in normal traffic, crossing the border near Emmerich and continuing through the Ruhr. Evening kick-offs and peak hours on the Ruhr motorways add to that, so match-day departures include a margin. The same chauffeur drives both ways, and the price is fixed when you book.
Dortmund Airport, on the eastern edge of the city, is the closest and mainly serves European routes. Düsseldorf Airport, about an hour away by road, has far more international and long-haul connections. SilverDrive collects at both, and at Schiphol, with flight tracking and a fixed price.
Yes. Your chauffeur sets you down at the drop-off point that applies on the day, agrees a pickup point with you before you go in and waits during the match. After the final whistle you walk to the car while the crowd queues for trams and trains.
Yes. A V-Class or EQV seats up to seven, the Sprinter VIP up to 16 and the Setra coach up to 56, so supporters’ clubs and corporate hospitality groups travel together. Several cars can also be coordinated for one party, with a fixed price for the whole booking.
Yes. Essen is about 40 minutes from Dortmund and Düsseldorf about an hour, so a full-day booking can cover meetings in several Rhine-Ruhr cities with one chauffeur and the luggage staying in the car. The price for the day is agreed before you travel.
