London by road from Amsterdam: one car, one chauffeur, the LeShuttle crossing and a fixed price, door to door.
A car service in London means one of three things: a black cab you hail on the street, a private hire car you pre-book through a licensed operator, or a chauffeur service with an executive vehicle and a professional driver. All three are legal, regulated and useful, but they fit different situations, and visitors who understand the distinction save money on some journeys and frustration on others.
SilverDrive is an Amsterdam-based chauffeur company. We do not operate a fleet inside London, but we drive clients there from the Netherlands regularly, and our guide gives the honest version of how the London system, congestion and emission zones included, actually works.
SilverDrive offers a chauffeur service London travellers use to reach the capital by road: a door-to-door journey from Amsterdam, the Netherlands or Belgium to any London address, with one car and one screened, English-speaking chauffeur throughout. The Channel crossing by LeShuttle, the left-hand driving and London road charges are all included in a fixed price agreed at booking.
Most searches for a chauffeur in London end with a local firm that collects you at Heathrow or drives you between meetings in the City. That is not what we do, and this page says so plainly. SilverDrive is a chauffeur company founded in Amsterdam, with its own fleet based in the Netherlands. Our London work is the journey between the Continent and the capital: the one leg that local London operators do not cover and that an airport turns into three separate trips.
For the background on black cabs, private hire and congestion zones once you are in the city, read our guide to car service in London. This page covers the booking itself.
A London booking with SilverDrive is a single, continuous journey: collection at your door on the Continent, delivery to your door in London, the same vehicle and chauffeur all the way. You never handle luggage between the two addresses.
The return works identically: we collect you in London and drive you home to the Netherlands or Belgium, or on to Paris or Brussels if your itinerary continues.
Plan on roughly 7 to 8.5 hours door to door. It is a travelling day, not a transfer, and the people who book it plan it that way.
| Stage | Approximate time |
|---|---|
| Amsterdam to Calais, via Antwerp and Ghent | About 3.5 hours |
| Calais terminal: check-in and border controls | About 1 hour |
| LeShuttle crossing to Folkestone | About 35 minutes |
| Folkestone to central London on the M20 | About 1.5 to 2 hours |
From Brussels or Antwerp the day is shorter, because you start closer to Calais. The London end varies most: the final hour depends on where in the city you are going and when you meet its traffic. Our chauffeur plans the departure backwards from your arrival time, with a margin at the terminal rather than a race to it. The full route is set out stage by stage in our Amsterdam to London chauffeur guide.
A chauffeured car beats the train and the plane when the people, the luggage or the address make public terminals the slow option. For a solo traveller with a cabin bag going from central Amsterdam to central London, Eurostar is quicker, and we will tell you so.
The car is the better choice for:
Choose by passengers and luggage first, then by occasion. Every vehicle comes from our own fleet, with our own chauffeurs.
Capacities and photos are on the fleet page.
If you fly, use the London options on arrival and book SilverDrive for the European end of the trip. Our business chauffeur service covers the Schiphol transfer and the meeting days in the Netherlands and Belgium around a London trip.
Before you land, our Journal guides explain each London gateway: Heathrow, Gatwick, London City, and the private aviation airports such as Farnborough and Luton. For current congestion and emission rules in the capital, the official source is Transport for London.
Booking takes one exchange and ends with a fixed price and a confirmed car. You can book online at book now or in the SilverDrive app.
If plans change during the drive, such as an extra stop in Ghent or a second London address, tell the chauffeur and we requote honestly rather than improvising charges.
SilverDrive was founded in Amsterdam by Joshua Faerber and operates its own fleet, so the car and chauffeur on your booking are the ones that arrive. Executive assistants and travel managers book us for London because the price is agreed before travel, the chauffeur is screened and English-speaking, and the whole journey is one accountable booking rather than a train, two taxis and a hope.
We also arrange the start of the trip from private aviation: through our partnerships with the Schiphol VIP Centre and Jet Aviation, a London journey can start straight from a private or VIP arrival at Schiphol rather than at a front door. Read how we approach cross-border chauffeur service in Europe, or see the other cities we serve.
It depends on the vehicle, the pickup address and the date, so SilverDrive quotes every London journey individually. The figure is fixed at booking and covers the drive, the LeShuttle crossing and any London road charges on the route. Nothing is added afterwards for traffic or a slow crossing.
SilverDrive does not run a local fleet inside London, so we do not sell hourly hire within the city. What we sell is the road journey between London and the Continent, door to door with one chauffeur. For short trips once you are in town, a black cab or a licensed London operator is the right tool.
Plan on roughly 7 to 8.5 hours door to door. The drive to Calais takes about 3.5 hours, the terminal and the 35 minute LeShuttle crossing add around 1.5 hours, and Folkestone to central London is about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic and where in London you are going.
For one person with a cabin bag travelling centre to centre, Eurostar is faster and we say so. A chauffeur wins for groups of three or more, heavy or valuable luggage, addresses outside central London, and anyone who wants to work, rest or take calls in private the whole way.
At the Calais terminal, before you board. French and UK border controls sit side by side there and are usually cleared from the car, so you arrive in Folkestone with the formalities done. Bring passports and any documents the UK requires for your nationality, and check current entry rules before travelling.
Our chauffeur service London route turns a journey of trains, terminals and taxis into one car, one chauffeur and one fixed price, from your door on the Continent to your door in London. Send us the date and both addresses and we will confirm the figure before you commit. Book your London journey.
