Head offices, Messe Essen fairs and Düsseldorf Airport 25 to 30 minutes away, with one chauffeur and a price fixed before you travel.
Essen is the head-office city of the Ruhr, home to E.ON, RWE, thyssenkrupp and Evonik, and Messe Essen draws international fair visitors throughout the year. Most arrive through Düsseldorf Airport or by road from the Netherlands, and their days are made of short journeys between important addresses.
SilverDrive covers Essen with its own fleet and screened, English-speaking chauffeurs, and the same booking can take in Düsseldorf, Dortmund or Cologne.
A chauffeur service in Essen is a car from SilverDrive’s own fleet and a screened, English-speaking driver, booked at a fixed price before you travel. In Essen it covers Düsseldorf Airport transfers, fair days at Messe Essen, meetings at the head offices of some of Germany’s largest companies, and cross-border drives from Amsterdam or Schiphol into the Ruhr.
Essen is a head-office city. E.ON has its headquarters on Brüsseler Platz, and RWE, thyssenkrupp, Evonik, Aldi Nord, Hochtief and Brenntag are all based in the city as well. Messe Essen, beside the Grugapark in Rüttenscheid, hosts international fairs for the energy, horticulture, security and automotive worlds. The visitors these bring arrive through Düsseldorf Airport or by road from the Netherlands, and their days are built from short, important journeys between addresses that are rarely next to a station. That is the work a chauffeur does well.
Essen bookings fall into four groups, and each is quoted as one fixed price before you commit.
| Booking | Typical use | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| Airport transfer | Düsseldorf Airport to a hotel, office or the Messe | Flight tracking, meet and greet, 60 minutes of waiting after touchdown |
| Business chauffeur | Head-office meetings, board days, roadshows | A car at a stated time, door to door |
| Hourly chauffeur | Fair days, several meetings, dinners in Rüttenscheid | The car and chauffeur stay with you |
| Cross-border transfer | Amsterdam, Schiphol or a Dutch hotel to Essen | One uninterrupted drive with one chauffeur |
Düsseldorf Airport (DUS) is the airport for Essen: about 30 kilometres away, usually 25 to 30 minutes by road via the A52 in normal traffic. It is the main international hub of North Rhine-Westphalia, and the drive into Essen is short enough that the pickup itself has to be precise.
A SilverDrive airport pickup works the same way every time. You book with your flight number and destination, we track the flight, your chauffeur meets you in arrivals with a name sign and takes the luggage, and you are driven to the hotel, office or fairground at the price agreed at booking. Our Düsseldorf Airport guide covers the terminal and the pickup in detail.
Messe Essen sits at Norbertstraße 2 in Rüttenscheid, next to the Grugapark and the Grugahalle. Its calendar includes E-world energy & water, where the European energy industry meets each year, IPM Essen for horticulture, SPIEL Essen, the leading fair for board games, Security Essen and the Essen Motor Show. Dates and halls are published by the Messe.
During a large fair three things happen at once. Hotels in Essen fill up, and visitors stay further out across the Ruhr and in Düsseldorf. The roads around the Messe slow down at opening and closing time. And taxis are hardest to find exactly when every exhibitor wants one. A multi-day booking with the same chauffeur answers all three: a morning drop at the entrance that applies for your event, a car on call during the day and a collection that waits for the client dinner to end.
Public transport works too, and we say so: the U11 runs from Essen Hauptbahnhof to the Messe in about five minutes. The chauffeur earns its place when you are staying outside the centre, carrying samples or display material, or hosting clients who should not be queueing on a platform. Stand teams travel together in the seven-seat V-Class or the 16-seat Sprinter VIP. For the wider picture of fair-week logistics, see our event transportation page.
Board meetings, investor visits and supplier days at Essen’s head offices are short appointments with high stakes. A guest may fly into Düsseldorf, spend two or three hours in a building and move on to Düsseldorf, Dortmund or Cologne the same day.
A business chauffeur is built for that pattern. The car meets the flight, waits during the meeting, carries the luggage and documents all day and adapts when a session overruns. For a sequence of meetings across the Rhine-Ruhr, an hourly booking keeps one car and one driver with you throughout. For regular visitors, a standing arrangement with agreed rates is usually simpler, and our guide to roadshow transportation explains how multi-city investor days are run.
Essen rewards a few free hours, and its landmarks are spread out enough that a car makes the difference.
Essen sits at the centre of the Ruhr, so one booking often covers several cities. Times below are approximate and assume normal traffic.
| From central Essen to | Approximate drive time |
|---|---|
| Düsseldorf Airport (DUS) | 25 to 30 minutes |
| Düsseldorf city centre | About 40 minutes |
| Dortmund | About 40 minutes |
| Cologne | About 1 hour |
| Amsterdam or Schiphol | About 2.5 hours |
The Ruhr motorways are busy at peak times, and a chauffeur who plans around them is worth more than one who drives faster. From Amsterdam, the route crosses the border near Emmerich. See our Düsseldorf, Dortmund and Cologne pages for the neighbouring cities, and our chauffeur service in Germany guide for longer itineraries.

SilverDrive was founded in Amsterdam by Joshua Faerber and runs its own fleet rather than brokering rides to unknown subcontractors. In Essen that means a car we maintain, a chauffeur we screened, a fixed price agreed at booking and flight tracking on every airport pickup. Cross-border drives between the Netherlands and Germany are common for our team, and the same chauffeur can carry you from Schiphol to a meeting in Essen and on to Düsseldorf Airport in a single booking. Discretion is the default, and so is English.
About 30 kilometres, usually 25 to 30 minutes by road via the A52 in normal traffic. It is the natural airport for Essen, with far more international routes than the smaller airports nearby. Your chauffeur tracks the flight, so an early or late landing moves the pickup rather than the price.
Roughly 2.5 hours for a little over 200 kilometres, crossing the border near Emmerich and continuing into the Ruhr. Peak hours on the Ruhr motorways add to that. With a chauffeur the journey becomes working or resting time, and you arrive at the actual address rather than at a station.
Yes. A multi-day booking keeps the same chauffeur with you for the whole fair: a morning drop at the hall entrance that applies for your event, a car on call during the day and a collection that waits for the client dinner to finish. Book early for the large international fairs.
For a short, unplanned hop across town, a taxi is simpler and cheaper. A chauffeur suits the journeys that matter: airport runs, fair days, board meetings and guests you are responsible for, with a known car, a named driver and a price agreed before you travel.
Yes. Düsseldorf is about 40 minutes away, Dortmund about 40 minutes and Cologne about an hour, so a full-day booking can cover meetings in several Rhine-Ruhr cities with one chauffeur and the luggage staying in the car. The price for the whole day is fixed when you book.
From a single DUS pickup to a full week at the Messe, a chauffeur service in Essen from SilverDrive comes with a fixed price, a screened driver and a car from our own fleet. Book your Essen chauffeur and we confirm the details before you travel, or browse all our cities.
