Apeldoorn is a green, spread-out town in the Veluwe, where the A1 from Amsterdam meets the A50. Paleis Het Loo, the former royal palace, stands on its edge, and the Hoge Veluwe National Park and the Kröller-Müller Museum lie to the south-west.

SilverDrive drives Apeldoorn from its Amsterdam base, with its own fleet, screened chauffeurs and a price fixed at booking. Combine it with Arnhem, Zwolle or Utrecht on the same booking.

A chauffeur service in Apeldoorn is a car from SilverDrive’s own fleet and a screened, English-speaking driver, booked at a fixed price before you travel. Apeldoorn is about an hour and a half from Schiphol and an hour and a quarter from central Amsterdam, and the service here covers airport transfers, business days, event days at Paleis Het Loo and private days in the Veluwe.

Apeldoorn sits in the Veluwe, east of Amersfoort, where the A1 from Amsterdam meets the A50 between Arnhem and Zwolle. It is a spread-out, green town rather than a compact one, which matters for anyone without a car: offices, hotels, the palace and the forest are some distance apart, and the best of the Veluwe is reached by road. A booked car and a chauffeur who knows the area turn that into a short drive between each stop.

Schiphol to Apeldoorn by chauffeur

Schiphol is about 105 kilometres from Apeldoorn, roughly an hour and a half by road in normal traffic, and central Amsterdam is about 90 kilometres away along the A1, around an hour and a quarter. The A1 is the road that sets the timing at peak hours, and our Netherlands rush hour guide explains when it slows.

Your chauffeur tracks the flight, meets you in the arrivals hall with a name sign and includes 60 minutes of waiting after touchdown. Our Schiphol pickup guide shows where you meet. For departures, the pickup is worked back from your check-in with a buffer for the A1. Guests flying privately can be met through the Schiphol VIP Centre or Jet Aviation.

Eindhoven and Düsseldorf airports

Apeldoorn is within reach of two more airports. Eindhoven Airport is about 120 kilometres away, roughly 1 hour 20 minutes, and Düsseldorf about 160 kilometres, roughly 1 hour 45 minutes across the German border. The same fixed-price, flight-tracked pickup applies at both; see our Eindhoven Airport guide and Düsseldorf Airport guide.

Business travel in Apeldoorn

Apeldoorn’s offices, conference hotels and business parks are spread along the A1 and the A50 and around the edge of the town, which makes the gaps between appointments the hard part of a working day. A business chauffeur closes them: the car collects you at the hotel or the station, waits during each meeting and moves you on to the next address, then to dinner or the airport.

Apeldoorn combines easily with Arnhem, about half an hour south, or with Zwolle to the north, on a single booking with one chauffeur. For regular visitors, a standing arrangement with agreed rates and the same screened chauffeurs is usually simpler; our corporate car service guide explains how that works.

Paleis Het Loo and the Concours d’Elegance

Paleis Het Loo, the former royal palace on the edge of Apeldoorn, is the town’s best-known address. Its baroque gardens are worth an hour in their own right, and they are also the setting for the Dutch Concours d’Elegance, where collectors show rare coachwork on the lawns.

On event days the roads around the palace and the Amersfoortseweg are busy at opening and closing time. Your chauffeur plans the arrival with a margin, knows the drop-off arrangements before you leave and waits for the return at an agreed time, so nobody in your party needs to drive home. Our dedicated page on a chauffeur for the Concours d’Elegance covers the day in detail, including vehicles for collectors and hospitality groups.

The Veluwe with a private driver

Apeldoorn is the natural base for the Veluwe, the largest forest area in the Netherlands, and the main sights are spread across it.

  • Hoge Veluwe National Park. The park lies between Apeldoorn and Arnhem and has three entrances: Hoenderloo, the closest from Apeldoorn, Otterlo and Schaarsbergen. Cars may use some of the park roads, against a fee, to reach fixed car parks.
  • Kröller-Müller Museum. Inside the park, about four kilometres or ten minutes by car from the Hoenderloo entrance, the museum holds one of the world’s largest Van Gogh collections and a large sculpture garden.
  • Apenheul, the primate park on the edge of Apeldoorn, popular with families.
  • Deventer, the Hanseatic town to the east, for dinner in the old centre after a day outdoors.

A full day with an hourly booking keeps one car and driver with you, waiting while you walk, cycle or spend the afternoon in the museum. Our Dutch-language page on a day at the Hoge Veluwe with a chauffeur sets out a full itinerary.

Why SilverDrive in Apeldoorn

SilverDrive was founded in Amsterdam by Joshua Faerber and drives across the Netherlands and Europe in cars it owns, not rides passed to a subcontractor. In Apeldoorn that means a fixed price agreed at booking, screened English-speaking chauffeurs, free flight tracking on airport pickups and availability around the clock, with the same chauffeur throughout a multi-day booking.

We are also clear about the alternative. Apeldoorn has direct trains to Amsterdam, and for one person travelling station to station the train is cheaper. A chauffeur is the better choice with an airport, a group, an event at Het Loo or a day in the Veluwe. See all the places we cover on our cities page.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the drive from Schiphol to Apeldoorn?

About 1 hour 30 minutes in normal traffic for roughly 105 kilometres, and about an hour and a quarter from central Amsterdam via the A1. Peak hours add to that. For a departure, your chauffeur plans backwards from check-in with a margin; for an arrival, the flight is tracked, so a delay moves the pickup and not the price.

Which airports can I use for Apeldoorn?

Schiphol is the main international airport, about an hour and a half away. Eindhoven Airport is about 1 hour 20 minutes by road, and Düsseldorf about 1 hour 45 minutes across the German border. SilverDrive collects at all three with flight tracking and a fixed price agreed at booking.

Can a chauffeur take us to Paleis Het Loo for the Concours d’Elegance?

Yes. The concours is held in the gardens of Paleis Het Loo, and on event days the roads around the palace are busy at opening and closing. Your chauffeur plans the arrival with a margin, sets you down at the permitted point and waits for the return at an agreed time.

How far is the Kröller-Müller Museum from Apeldoorn?

The museum lies inside the Hoge Veluwe National Park, between Apeldoorn and Arnhem. From Apeldoorn the Hoenderloo entrance is the natural way in, about four kilometres or ten minutes by car from the museum once inside the park. Cars may use some park roads, against a fee.

Is the train or a chauffeur better between Amsterdam and Apeldoorn?

For one person travelling station to station, the train is cheaper. A chauffeur suits early flights, luggage, groups, event days at Het Loo, addresses outside the centre and days in the Veluwe, where the places worth seeing are spread out and poorly served by public transport.
